How to Read
the Bible
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Three-Step Approach to Studying a Bible Passage
Observation
After reading the passage, take a moment to notice what the passage is saying. Look for repeated words, key-phrases, cross-references. Ask yourself what is happening and do you have any questions about what you read.
Interpretation
Interpretation dives into what is being communicated through the passage. Learning the context of the passage is important, especially when asking the questions "Why is the author bringing up this detail?" or "What is God saying through this passage?"
Application
Application turns the passage back to us, challenging us with the question of how are we supposed to respond to the passage? How should you live your life in light of reading this passage? What does it look like to practically do so?

After reading the Bible, it is important to take a moment to respond in prayer.

Slow Down

Choose a Bible You Like
Pick a translation you like to read. Do you want a bible with a commentary? One made of a specific material?
Choose a Pen and Paper You Like
Select a pen and paper that feel good to write on for note taking. Maybe you prefer a specific pen, a leather journal, or a digital note taking option?
Find a Place
Find a quiet place where you are less likely to be interrupted or distracted. Make the place comfortable and appealing to you.
